Comparisons: U.S. & Namibia
Before I set out on my journey to Namibia, I decided I wanted to remain as open-minded as possible with as few preconceived notions as possible about what I would experience and feel. This attitude was extremely helpful to me not only on a day-to-day basis as I coped with water and electricity shortages, but also on a wider scope as I sought to blend my life in the U.S. with my summer teaching in Namibia. After reflecting on my experience at Ongha S.S.S., I realized that for as many differences between education and schools in Namibia compared to the U.S., there were just as many similarities. Considering the vast differences in economy, population, industrialization, lifestyle, and culture, these similarities between the U.S. and Namibia required a deeper look at the education systems in both countries. My website focuses on three primary areas in education: resource allocation, social capital, and English language learning. I unveil several similarities pertaining to these issues in both the U.S. and Namibia and offer potential solutions for Namibia's educational system on the "Moving Forward" page.
